Sailing with the Swiatek Family

Family Fun with the Swiatek Family at Clinton Lake Date: November 6, 2021

The Flying Scot is the quintessential teaching boat. It's a versatile day sailor with a large race following that provides a fun balance of stability and performance. It's a comfortable boat the whole family can enjoy and stay safe and dry on a cold and windy day (like the one in the video). With a large race following and active fleets located all over the country, the Flying Scot makes for a great starter boat a sailor can spend a lifetime growing into. For Hugh and Carissa Swiatek, the Flying Scot is a boat they can enjoy casually with their little girls, but can also race with their local fleet.

2021 Whale of a Sail Regatta

Host: Carlyle Sailing Association Date: September 18-19, 2021

Race 2 (Start)

In this video we ride along with Eric Bussell and Richard Alonso as they execute a port tack approach. This video shows how to effectively defend against a swooper and Eric shows us why it's sometimes better to let the windward boat sail past rather than run them up over the line.

Race 2 (Windward Mark)

Eric and Richard approach the windward mark on the port lay line and have to contend with a starboard tack boat at the mark. Watch as they execute a regular spinnaker set with Eric providing commentary.

Race 2 (Finish)

Eric and Richard round the second leeward mark in first place, but a boat handling error during the mark rounding and foul by another boat makes things very interesting at the finish...
