Richard Alonso and I come into the first windward mark on the port layline and thread the needle for an exciting 2nd place mark rounding just behind the leader. While the mark rounding is exciting to watch, a combination of mistakes put us in a bad position and prevented us from breaking away from the pack. Our problems worsened when we couldn't stay with the lead pack we got mixed up with a mid-fleet sailor making poor decisions. This was pretty much the story of our regatta as we were unable to finish in the top 3 in any race. We were eager to have at least one great race after a disappointing Saturday and this was shaping up to be that race after winning the start before we blew it at the windward mark. I think it's safe to say you can sense my frustration had been piling up when you listen to the raw audio. I included this video because sailboat racing is not always sunshine and rainbows. We will continue to work hard and hopefully make fewer mistakes in the next regatta.
