Capsize Recovery

Capsize Recovery

This video demonstrates how to recover from a capsize utilizing the scoop method. If you are sailing a boat that can capsize in strong winds, you should know what to do and how to recover should your boat capsize. Here is another a fun video (different from lesson video) from my friends Bruce and Lynn kitchen after we caught them on video capsizing during a regatta. Experienced sailors are not accustomed to capsizing and even the best sailors can be be prepared for the unexpected. That is why I encourage to practice capsizing like we did here in the video, in controlled conditions with a safety boat nearby.

Following this procedures will prevent the boat form turtling, or turning completely upside down in the water, in most situations. If the boat turtles, here is a great video that shows how to recover a turtled Flying Scot without the assistance of a power boat.
