Livestream your regatta with multiple drone feeds at once!
Working with drone pilots from the Drone Network, we are developing innovative program to record and livestream sailboat races with multiple drone feeds with basic commentary. The purpose of our sailboat racing livestream effort is to have fun and help promote the sport of sailing. Livestreaming a sailboat race with multiple drone feeds allows prospective sailboat racers, family, and friends to experience and follow a sailboat race.
Help Wanted: We are looking for drone pilots who already have their Part 107 Certificate or are willing to get one. This is a great opportunity to work on a fun project and gain valuable experience working with a professional drone photographer. If you have an interest in drone photography, contact Eric by email: sailiboatinstructor@gmail.com.

Glow in the Dark Regatta - Race 3
Paul Stegmaier and his lovely bride Krystal volunteered to test the multi-cam program with 2 drones while I was on the course racing. Keeping in mind that Krystal was on the switcher and has zero racing experience, she did an amazing job showing us what is possible. They mic’d up the PRO and it was quite entertaining listening to the commentary on the boat. For the next test we’ll live stream with Starlink and have experienced racers on the switchers and directing the drone pilots. Commodore Cup Regatta 2025 (Races 1-3)
We recorded a livestream with gusts in the mid 20s. Click here to watch.
We highly recommend a dedicated "commentator" or who can discuss the sailboat race. Providing light and fun discussion about the racing activities will keep viewers more interested and engaged. We bring wireless lapel mics and provide extended reality glasses to the commentator can better see the program fee. Either way, listeners will hear essential pilot communications and any pilot discussion about the sailboat race.
We do not charge a fee, but we do ask regatta organizers to pay travel and lodging expenses for the livestream team. The pilots involved with the Drone Network livestream do this for fun and will help livestream a couple not-for-profit events each year. Pilots and video editors in the Drone Network will typically charge $1000/day on a freelance basis.
What if the weather doesn't cooperate?
-We will not fly a drone in the rain.
-Our standard equipment can fly in winds up to 25mph.
-We only book fully refundable flights and hotel rooms and allow organizers to cancel at anytime before incoming departure.
You've got questions. We've got answers.
Visit this FAA website which explains the process of becoming a certified remote pilot. Basically, you need to go a testing center and take a test ($175). There are many free YouTube test prep and many paid online courses. Once you pass your test and complete the necessary form, it generally takes 10-12 days to get your temporary certificate.
No. Each drone operator is provided a course diagram and an easy-to-follow flight plan. We try to keep it simple and provide basic feedback (e.g. higher, lower, closer, further). We have extensive racing experience and will be monitoring and directing other drone pilots. You'll learn about sailboat racing, but will not be expected to know sailboat racing.
Yes, so long as it a mini pro series drone with a either RC Pro or RC Pro 2 controller. The controller needs to have a hdmi output to feed the controller's screen into the livestream. For safety reasons, we only use the smaller drones on a crowded boat.
